Galen is a DPhil student at the Oxford Department of Materials, a member of the PSG group and a recipient of an iCASE Studentship from the EPSRC. His research is focussed on the understanding and development of novel manufacturing techniques for Sodium-ion battery electrodes. Through exploration of fabrication methods beyond traditional slurry casting (such as spray deposition and solventless processing), the performance of Sodium-ion batteries might be improved to compete with their Lithium counterparts. Materials characterisation such as XRD and SEM, as well electrochemical analysis, will allow these effects to be investigated.
Before starting his DPhil, Galen graduated with an MSci degree in Natural Sciences (Physics) from the University of Cambridge. His Master’s project on developing novel designs for Perovskite solar cells cemented his interest in the characterisation and engineering of energy materials.
