Ben is a DPhil student at the University of Oxford, a member of the PSG group and also associated with the Faraday Institution Nextrode project. His research focuses on understanding and developing dry processing techniques of Lithium Ion battery electrodes. With this type of production, the requirement for harmful, toxic solvents is eliminated, however, much more research is required to make dry manufacturing attractive for large-scale adoption. His work primarily involves trialling new dry processing routes and using analysis techniques such as SEM to investigate the processing.

Prior to starting his DPhil, he studied for an MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Warwick. Here, is where his interest in battery research began when he worked on modelling the mechanical damage of Solid-state batteries as part of his dissertation and then also through an internship at WMG.
